Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
BJP leader Dilip Ghosh, speaking at Eco Park, extended support to ongoing protests by job aspirants, including teachers, doctors, and SSC candidates. He criticised the state government for its handling of recruitment processes and alleged irregularities. Ghosh pointed to the protest at Acharya Sadan by jobless teachers and the Derozio Bhavan sit-in by Group C and D SSC candidates, highlighting the growing discontent among qualified individuals who have not been appointed despite clearing examinations.
Ghosh remarked that even doctors who had cleared exams but were not given jobs had resorted to protest. He claimed that these movements have not received any positive response from the state administration. “Those who make mistakes correct themselves, but those who commit injustice continue with it,” he said. He urged the protestors to approach the courts or legal representatives like Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya to seek redressal, stating that only the judiciary can provide a solution.
He also responded to remarks made by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee about the protest culture in Bengal. According to Ghosh, the Chief Minister had previously said that “protests are born out of emotion” but does not engage with any of the protestors or their demands. He said, “We protest about everything, protests will continue, but nothing will come from this government.” Ghosh added that the state’s education system is deteriorating, with “schools without teachers and exams without results,” and described the situation as a prolonged collapse over the past 15 years.
Addressing the issue of unpaid salaries for appointed candidates, Ghosh referred to Education Minister Bratya Basu's statement urging the Chief Minister to start salary disbursements from April for those appointed in March. Ghosh alleged that the government is deliberately avoiding resolution of the issue to escape accountability to around 8,000 individuals from whom money was allegedly taken during the recruitment process. He claimed, “Everyone is a stakeholder in that money.”
Dilip Ghosh also mentioned the government's previous promises regarding large-scale job creation at Deucha Panchami, claiming that no such jobs materialised. He said the Chief Minister repeatedly visits Medinipur, assuming that these visits will solve public dissatisfaction, but questioned the effectiveness of such actions. He cited the example of Mamata Banerjee’s foreign trip with Sourav Ganguly, calling it an act of distraction. He concluded by stating that the ongoing protests indicate widespread dissatisfaction with the administration.
